Blacks Won’t Be Photography For Much Longer

Placeholder

Canadian camera shop and photofinishing chain Blacks, whose slogan boasted it is photography, announced this week it's closing its 59 stores nationwide in August. The Toronto-based company, acquired by Telus Corp in 2009, blamed “technological innovations,” which mean fewer people are using retail photo outlets. The first Blacks camera store opened in 1948. Despite financial improvements this year, the company explained it has been “unable to realize profitable growth,” and that it would take “considerable investment to adapt Blacks to ongoing change.”
