My First Summer Job: Allied's Michael Emory

Toronto

We asked readers about their first summer jobs and have gotten some great submissions. We'll kick off with Allied Properties REIT CEO Michael Emory, whose first was as a cook’s assistant at a New Brunswick logging camp. Michael, 16 at the time, washed dishes, peeled potatoes, and cleaned bunkhouses, “which were filthy,” he recalls, noting the experience taught him the “value of hard work.” No matter tough a slog his duties seemed, it was nothing compared to the “brutally hard work" the loggers were doing out in the woods. Michael’s done plenty of hard work himself lately; Allied recently snapped up 460 King St W, the former Global Village Backpackers hostel, and 555 Richmond St W, setting the stage for future intensification projects in conjunction with adjacent Allied-owned properties.
