United Bank, the largest community bank headquartered in the nation’s capital and a major commercial real estate lender, has promoted Tim Veith to regional president of its Greater Washington markets.

Veith will focus on business development and client relationships while overseeing the management and operation of day-to-day banking activities in United’s six D.C. metro-area markets.

“A native of Washington, D.C., with 40 years of financial expertise, Tim has positioned himself as an industry leader in both local markets and throughout the region,” United Bank Chief Operating Officer Ross Draber said in a statement.

Veith joined United in 2016 as part of the merger with Bank of Georgetown, where he served as executive vice president and chief lending officer since 2009. Most recently, he held the position of market president for United’s Washington, D.C., market.

This promotion marks the end of a significant year for United. The company continued to report strong earnings throughout 2019 and in November entered into a definitive merger agreement with Carolina Financial Corp., the parent company of CresCom Bank. The merger is expected to close in Q2 2020, and the combined organization will be approximately $25B in assets and will rank in the top 35 largest banks in the U.S. based on market capitalization.

Veith is a graduate of the University of Maryland as well as the University of Texas Graduate School of Banking. He began his career in banking at Equitable Bank, where he held several positions, including president and CEO, before the bank was acquired by BB&T in 2003.

“Tim has been a driving force in United’s success in building partnerships across the Washington, D.C., area, as we continue our commitment to providing our customers and communities with the highest level of service,” Draber said in a statement.
