Midtown is the second-biggest business district in Atlanta and is quickly becoming the heart of the city’s tech industry, attracting companies like SPACES, the original European co-working concept. The area’s dilapidated industrial assets are being converted into hip mixed-use developments complete with condos and trendy restaurants, amenities critical to supporting a commercial office market. The area already hosts a thriving community of digital agencies and tech startups, including animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, e-commerce startup Scoutmob, manufacturing tech startup SoftWear Automation and information security firm CodeGuard.
New plans for Technology Square were recently announced, a place comprised of office space, hotels, a conference center, Georgia Tech’s business school and student housing, along with innovation centers and corporate offices. Atlanta-based Carter plans to renovate the former J.C. Penney regional headquarters and transform it into an outpost for startup tech companies that want proximity to Tech Square.

The interest of co-working provider SPACES was similarly piqued (its Menlo Park office interior is shown above). Founded in Amsterdam, SPACES brings creative, European designed co-working to America, appealing to everyone from the suit-and-tie Fortune 500 to t-shirt clad freelancers.
