Deskpass Lets Users Slide Into (Almost) Any Coworking Space

Once upon a time, coworking was a novel concept; now, you can't run away from it even if you try.

As more and more coworking spaces pop up and struggle to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace, a company called Deskpass is capitalizing on the saturation, offering a monthly membership that lets users try out different coworking spaces all across the country.

Deskpass co-founder Sam Rosen told Bisnow he's a born-and-bred Chicagoan who, about 10 years ago, was running a design and tech consultancy called One Design with a partner when they came across coworking. They opened their own concept, The Coop, which he says was the first coworking space in Chicago and among the first 250 in the world. Now, there are more than 100 in Chicago and 16,000 worldwide.

"After talking to hundreds of coworking operators all around the world, it became clear that there was an opportunity to build a tool like Deskpass to help connect the thousands of independently owned and operated shared workspaces that are popping up all over the world," Rosen said.

Deskpass is now launching in Miami, its eighth city, where members can use an app to book a desk at any of about 15 coworking spaces, including The LAB Miami, Ampersand Studios, Miami Ironside, BrainBox Coworking, CIC Miami, Pipeline Brickell, Center for Social Change and more. Members can also access about 250 other sites throughout the U.S.

The company is also operational in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago and Denver.

As for the elephant in the room, Rosen said, "We don't currently work with WeWork, but we're happy to work with any flexible workspace provider that has a high-quality space we think our members will enjoy."

The cost is $49 per month for four bookings, $99 for eight and $199 for 20. Users can experiment first with a free trial.
