Plagued By Problems, Timing Of Warm Springs BART Extension Opening Unclear

Placeholder

The Warm Springs BART extension in Fremont is still months away. The 5.4-mile project has been plagued with problems associated with BART’s aging infrastructure, which pushed the project’s end date further out, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The completion of the $890M project was previously pushed back to the end of 2015 due to a lack of funding.

Replacing crumbling power lines for the trains was the first of many problems. The digital tracking and communication system wouldn’t talk to the 40-year-old main computer and testing revealed incorrectly recorded locations and speeds. The problems have been fixed, but upwards of two months of testing are still needed.

BART officials said there is no set end date for the project. [SFC]
