Washington state's No. 4 in the nation for road trips, according to a new report by WalletHub, only topped by Oregon, Nevada and Minnesota. The company compared the 50 states across 20 key metrics to find the most fun, scenic and wallet-friendly road trip destinations, examining the attractions, road conditions, costs and even weather. Washington tops the list of "fun and scenic attractions," but scores fairly low on "driving and lodging costs." Being a high-quality destination is no small thing for the regional economy—and is great for hoteliers and retailers—since about about 85% of Americans (up 13% since 2014) are planning a summer vacation, mostly driving trips.
