City Starts Random Apartment Inspections

Placeholder

All rental housing in Seattle is now subject to random safety inspections under the Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance. The city's Department of Planning and Development will inspect about 2,000 properties this year, but once the program is fully up and running, the number will be 6,000 each year. Among other things, inspectors will check to make sure roofs don't leak, toilets flush and the heat's adequate, reports Puget Sound Business Journal. Over the course of 10 years, all the city's apartment buildings will be inspected. [PSBJ]
