WHEEL OF FORTUNE
WHEEL OF FORTUNE
Above, a glimmer of what you'll see at Pier 57 come June (which from a development standpoint seems like the equivalent of getting a puppy). This 175-foot-high Ferris wheel under construction comes at the behest of pier owner Hal Griffith. Gondolas will be enclosed and have heating and air conditioning and will extend out over the pier, hovering riders over Elliott Bay. Griffith and his sons Troy and Kyle see the wheel as a way to bolster business on the waterfront while the Viaduct is being torn down. We see it as a novel way to enjoy a coffee break. Whee!
