Racking It Up
What a difference two blocks can make. We stopped by the new Nordstrom Rack in Westlake Center the other night, where we were enchanted by the lighter, brighter space on Fifth and Pine, the better to browse the generous selection of shoes in. The 50 other people in the store at 8pm seemed to think so, too, happily ogling Diane von Furstenberg dresses, Anne Klein loafers, and what seemed to us to be the last word in iPad cases. The Rack moved from its old location on 2nd and Pine into Westlake's basement last week, and even though it was always there before, this seems like the biggest thing in clothing retail since H&M arrived in 2008. "Everyone's abuzz," a mall employee told us. Nordstrom may not be done moving around, either—rumor has it the company, already with offices in five downtown locations, may be in the process of leasing part of the Quest Plaza building on Seventh Avenue.
