RIDING THE RAILS

RIDING THE RAILS
On the light rail from Sea-Tac airport to Westlake Center the other evening, we were impressed with the development along the line, including a new Safeway complex, new-looking residential on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, and a stretch of shops and restaurants filling out the Othello station. (For a second we even wondered if we had accidentally landed in Vancouver—there's no higher rapid transit compliment than that.) The only thing that could have made the long, smooth ride better? A slightly shorter ride. Raise your hand if you'd like to see an express service from downtown to the airport, in addition to the service currently in place, which has 11 stops and takes 40 minutes. Don't get us wrong—we love light rail but can't help remembering that the express buses that used to go from downtown to the airport took only 15 minutes.
