More proof that Interbay is a neighborhood on the make: The Port of Seattle is considering building 200k SF in warehouse space on a portion of its 57 developable acres in the neighborhood, according to Joe McWilliams, managing director of the port's real estate division. Joe tells us phase one of the proposed project would likely involve developing 22 acres near the Magnolia Bridge into what the port is calling the Maritime Business Center. A final decision on that is unlikely to come before fall. In the meantime, the port is fishing for companies to lease space in the center. Though some of the details haven't surfaced yet, one thing is clear: "We won't do it on a spec basis," Joe says.
