McKinstry Unveils Model for Local Wind Power

100_3167

Kittitas County is windy, but no longer will it simply play victim to the machinations Big Breeze. Five new Gamesa 850 kW wind turbines aim to power more than 1,000 local homes. According to Seattle-based McKinstry, which built the turbines in collaboration with Puget Sound Energy and Swauk Creek Ranch, its a relatively small-scale project producing power locally, in contrast to the wind-farm approach that sells power to the grid. McKinstry expects to take the model nationwide. In return, everyone will continue to pretend the turbines don't look like alien pods and refrain from running through the streets screaming "They're here!"

You don't need a wind turbine to know which way the wind is blowing. Send ideas and suggestions dees.stribling@bisnow.com
