Want To Build The Smart Home? AT&T Launches IoT Start Kit To Jumpstart Development

Placeholder

AT&T hopes to kickstart the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home development by launching a starter kit. The toolset will provide entrepreneurs with essential building blocks such as LTE hardware, cloud storage and related application services.

The company’s SVP of IoT solutions, Chris Penrose, wanted to support developers with a “one-stop shop to help transform their ideas into impactful IoT services.” AT&T hopes to funnel new product development through its network and ecosystem.

A key challenge to IoT has been a lack of standards and rapidly changing software and hardware landscape. The telecom giant hopes to solve these problems by providing developers with a standardized set of hardware and software tools. Smart key maker UniKey VP Lee Odess told Bisnow getting this part right was absolutely necessary.
