The City of San Francisco will soon offer an easier way for businesses to get a permit. The city is planning a one-stop permit center at 1500 Mission St., according to City of San Francisco Director of Real Estate John Updike, who spoke at a recent Bisnow event. The building will house the planning department, public works and the department of building inspection.

“If you can think of a permit, you can get it at that location,” he said.

The 16-story building is a part of a JV with Related Cos., which will build 540 residential units as part of the project. About 20% of the units will be affordable. The city will own the 400K SF office upon completion. The project is part of The Hub, a mixed-use redevelopment plan in Western SoMa.

The project recently received the last approvals needed; it has taken three years to receive necessary approvals, Updike said. The permit center is expected to open Q1 2020. Once various developments are completed along Mission Street and South Van Ness, there will be about 500K SF of office space.
