The City's Newest Satellite Office

San Francisco Office

We got the scoop on the latest tech tenant to retain a flag in S.F. while keeping its main home base down south—a growing trend to appease a younger workforce. (Young people haven't had this much power since Louis XIV was king at 11 years old.)

LucidWorks just inked a deal to take the 5th floor at 240 Stockton, a 10-story art deco building erected after the 1906 earthquake. (Take that, tectonic plates.) The search and analytics company will keep its Redwood City office, with this new 3,700 SF office acting as a satellite locale. Landlord Bently Holdings regional property manager Anne Hill tells us they're the third tech tenant to move inside, proving startups are starting to consider North of Market spaces. The only availability in the 50k SF Union Square building is for the third floor, she says. The company just redid its own corporate offices inside, below. (Fun fact: construction workers found newspaper clippings inside the windows and stopgaps during demolition, on highway bandits in San Jose to the Three Stooges.)

Their HQ on the 7th and 8th floors got a very high-level buildout, she says. CEO Christopher Bently worked with architect Gary Nichols to inject high-tech amenities and luxurious finishes for the 40-person staff. The reception area feels like the concierge of a five-star hotel, and original exposed steel columns grace office hallways. A walnut conference table was constructed by a Berkeley craftsman from a street tree in Chico that was removed for safety reasons. (All of a sudden everyone wants to have conferences, unless they have tree nut allergies.) Its 100% high efficiency dimmable LED lighting, telephony and audio/visual is automated, controlled by the Savant platform via an iPad. The space is pursuing LEED Platinum certification.
