Arson Behind Mission Fires? Supervisor Speculates, Fire Chief Disagrees

Placeholder

Is arson behind the spike in fires in San Francisco's Mission District? Supervisor David Campos has publicly speculated that may be the case despite disagreement from the city's fire chief.

The city supervisor alleged the fires might be the work of arsonists in an op-ed in the San Francisco Examiner. Campos previously noted fires could benefit landlords who can clear the ruins and sell the land to developers, Curbed reported.

S.F. fire chief Joanne Hayes-White notes homes in Mission are old, packed beyond their original design and therefore more prone to fire. Older wiring can heighten the hazard. [Curbed]
