The Bay Area Condo Boom!

Mr. Shannon is responsible for Tishman Speyer’s portfolio in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest. He has been charged with overseeing the development of various signature developments, such as Lumina and The Infinity, two condominium projects adjacent to San Francisco’s waterfront, and three office buildings at Foundry Square III, 222 Second Street and 555 Mission in the central business district. Mr. Shannon is also a member of the Investment and Management Committees. Before joining Tishman Speyer in 1998, he worked for both GE Capital and The Prudential Insurance Company of America. Mr. Shannon received an AB, magna cum laude, and graduated with an MBA, with high honors, from Harvard University.

Patrick Kennedy is the owner of Panoramic Interests, a development firm that has been building housing, live-work space, and commercial property in the Bay Area since 1990. The firm has focused on dense, mixed-use, mixed-income, infill developments, typically financed with private funds. All of the multi-family housing projects include below market rate units. The firm’s projects incorporate the Smart Growth principles designed to discourage auto use, mitigate sprawl, encourage local business, and enhance the pedestrian streetscape. Mr. Kennedy grew up in the East Bay, and attended Claremont McKenna College, majoring in Economics and English. He is a former member of the Carpenters Union and Steelworkers Union, and the California Bar. After college, he worked as a contractor, and then attended Harvard Law School and MIT, graduating with a J.D. and a Masters in Real Estate Development. Early development work included building his own house, and renovating several small commercial properties. His hobbies include open water swimming and ultra-light backpacking, both of which have furnished surprising insights into his work in development.

Dan Safier is the President & CEO of Prado Group. Dan is responsible for the firm’s overall investment and development operations. Throughout his 30+ years in the business, Dan has invested and developed residential, retail, office, and mixed-use properties throughout the Western US. His passion is creating great walkable, urban mixed-use environments. Dan is a member of the Urban Development Mixed-Use Council (UDMUC) of the Urban Land Institute, ICSC, and Lambda Alpha International. He is the former Chairman of the Board and current Board Member of the Jim Joseph Foundation, a Director of SPUR, a Member of the UC Berkeley Fisher Center Policy Advisory Board, a Trustee of the Schultz Family Foundation, and a Founding Member of UC Berkeley’s Terner Center for Housing Innovation. Dan received his BA from UC Berkeley and his JD from UC Hastings College of Law.

Mr. MacDonald is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), SPUR, and the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC), and he has been a featured speaker at numerous local and regional real estate industry events, including the San Francisco ULI Residential Local Product Council, the Fisher Center Annual Real Estate & Economics Symposium, the Marcus & Millichap Multifamily Forum and the Bisnow Residential Summit. Mr. MacDonald received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering with Distinction from Stanford University in 1993 and a Master of Science in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2007. Mr. MacDonald is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi honor societies.

Tom has more than 25 years of professional experience as an architect, serving as the design and entitlements lead on a variety of building scales and project types, predominantly focused on urban markets. Tom has deep experience in several market sectors, including large-scale mixed use; multi-family residential; pre-development services; and branded resort, residential and hospitality projects. Evident throughout his portfolio is his focused effort in coordinating a variety of domestic and international sustainability standards, introducing clients to innovative green technologies and incorporating local cultures and lifestyles to fully realize unique, relevant and responsible design. What excites Tom about design is the process itself. “The dynamics of the team approach to design, being around creative people and leading the effort to blend diverse viewpoints and backgrounds into unique and cohesive ideas, is my focus,” says Tom.
