Photomask Building Sells After 17 Years Vacant

Built in 1999 and never occupied, the Toppan Photomask building in Gresham has sold to an investment firm out of Vancouver, WA. The firm, Pac 1 Property of Vancouver, is taking steps to return the 72k SF industrial building to a usable condition, performing long-overdue maintenance. The site will become an incubator for online and small manufacturing businesses, reports the Portland Business Tribune.

The building was originally intended to be used as a manufacturing plant for semiconductor wafers, costing DuPont Photomask $75M. An electronics industry recession forced DuPont to halt construction in the middle of the building's interior stages. The firm was later bought by Toppan. Located on the corner of Northeast 242nd Drive and Glisan Street, the building changed hands numerous times, unable to find a user until now. [PBT]
