After nearly 100 years as a family-owned business based in Pittsburgh, Levin Furniture has been sold to Art Van Furniture for an unspecified price.

Sam Levin founded Levin Furniture in 1920. The company is currently run by  Robert Levin, who is Sam Levin's grandson. Art Van Furniture’s acquisition of Levin Furniture adds 35 stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio to its portfolio.

In a separate deal, Art Van also acquired Altoona-based Wolf Furniture, which was co-founded in 1902 by Charles Wolf and Jon Fox, and is led by fourth-generation family member Doug Wolf.

In 2015, Wolf Furniture acquired Maryland-based Gardiners Furniture, and rebranded the stores Gardiner Wolf Furniture. Wolf Furniture operates 18 showrooms in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, which will be added to Art Van Furniture’s portfolio.

Warren, Michigan-based Art Van is not changing the name of either chain. The company now operates 176 stores in nine states under various names, including the newly acquired chains, but also Art Van Furniture, Art Van PureSleep, Art Van Flooring and Scott Shuptrine Interiors.

In March, private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners of Boston acquired a majority shareholder interest in Art Van.
