The Clarendon Hotel and Spa at 401 West Clarendon Ave. is getting a $2M facelift, including all parts of the midcentury space: guest rooms, public areas, restaurant and rooftop deck. The work is underway, the Phoenix Business Journal reports, and the balance of it will be completed by the end of this year.

The property's distinctive rooftop Skydeck will have a new walk deck, along with new seating, shade structures, lighting and landscaping. Cafe Tranquilo has replaced all of its kitchen equipment and will receive a full interior renovation.

As for the guest rooms, they will soon sport Tuft & Needle beds, as well as new flooring and paint schemes, lighting, artwork, window coverings, Keurig machines and smart fridges.

A similarly comprehensive upgrade will be done to Clarendon's common areas, with the installation of new flooring, furnishing, sculptures and other artwork.

Owner Ben Bethel said as an independent property, the hotel can respond to trends in guest tastes and needs "to stay competitive in a market that's filled with boring, beige, big-box hotels."
