Historic Hawthorne Hall In Powelton Village Sees Revitalization On The Horizon

Hawthorne Hall, a historic but long-vacant performance venue in Powelton Village, could have a rebirth in its future.

The space, at 3849 Lancaster Ave., is a main focus of West Philly community activist organization People's Emergency Center. It has brought in architect Lea Oxenhandler, who has been named Philadelphia's first-ever Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellow, to lead the design on a renovation of the building and other nearby historic sites, Curbed Philly reports.

PEC wishes to keep the historically registered Hawthorne Hall, built in 1895, as an arts and performance center to anchor a major reinvestment in Lancaster as a cultural center in Powelton Village, but any concrete plans are still a ways off. For now, it will have to serve as a bit of good news fans of historical preservation have been waiting for.
