Need some capital? Seniors living properties, corporate regional offices, and financial institution facilities are seeing an increased availability of capital for renovations, according to Meyer Design CEO Norman Liedtke, a Philadelphia-based architect. Plans that have been on hold for a while are now getting the green light. The firm has increased its staff size by 20% since January, hiring nine employees. The increase mirrors the rise in Architecture Billings Index, a leading economic indicator by AIA that forecasts nonresidential construction spending activity. It was up nationally from a score of 45.1 in July to 51.6 in September, the highest in two years.

Norman also told us about the firm’s sixth annual Chair Month in October. Meyer realized that a design firm’s reputation suffers when clients have negative experiences with furniture, so all of its architects, interior designers and staff evaluate different types of chairs by national manufactures and rank the best ones. This year’s winner: Indiana Furniture’s Clutch Chair. Pictured: Meyer Design’s Kathryn Hunchar, Kate Fox and Lindsey Bloor.
