Surgery is hard enough as it is, so we applaud those who make sure doctors don't have to do it in the dark. EwingCole recently received a 2012 Section Award for its lighting work at the Katz Women’s Surgical Unit (above), part of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. The locally-based firm also won an Illuminations Award of Merit from the continental organization of IES. Why the win win? For starters, the job earned LEED cert without going over budget. EwingCole president Mark Hebden says their success "has been shaped by the time and dedication spent understanding clients, their needs, and objectives."

The Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers, meanwhile, awarded EwingCole an Award of Merit for the new HQ of United Therapeutics in Silver Spring, Md. (above). The eight-story office-tower complex comes with outdoor seating, rooftop decks, and an elliptical-shaped auditorium. EC also won an Outstanding Award for the HQ's 90-foot pedestrian connector project, which spans two of the HQ's separate buildings. But wait, there's more. EwingCole also picked up a 2012 Outstanding Award for its work on the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center in the Poconos. (Its next project will just be an elaborate trophy case.) Congrats!
