In a sign of how retail centers are evolving, The Walt Disney Co. is adding a bowling alley and craft brewery to its popular Downtown Disney area.

Downtown Disney is an outdoor shopping district that features retail, restaurants and entertainment in Disneyland Resort in Anaheim

The area is sandwiched between Disney’s themed hotels and leads guests straight to the esplanade area of the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks.

Opening in the next couple of weeks, Florida-based Splitsville Luxury Lanes will take up the site of the former House of Blues.

Splitsville will be housed in a two-story 40K SF building featuring 20 bowling lanes, a 625-seat restaurant and an outdoor patio overlooking Downtown Disney.

Later this year, San Diego-based Ballast Point, a craft brewery restaurant, will open at the site of the former Build-A-Bear Workshop, Chapel Hats and Ridemakerz.

The 9,350 SF craft brewery will feature a family-friendly restaurant, a three-barrel research and development brewery and an outdoor beer garden.

This is Ballast Point’s first location in Orange County and seventh in Southern California.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ballast Point to Downtown Disney,” Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney Vice President Patrick Finnegan said. “Our guests are constantly asking for new and innovative dining experiences, and Ballast Point’s selection of award-winning beers, locally inspired cuisine and friendly atmosphere make them a perfect fit.”

Disney's new additions come just a month after opening the VOID, a virtual reality experience based on "Star Wars."
