Why Creative Office is The New Normal

As the creative office movement continues to spread, the definition gets more and more confusing. Is it just an open floor plan? Come find out what it really means at Bisnow's 3rd annual OC Construction & Development Summit, starting at 730am on Wednesday (July 29) at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa.

Among our speakers will be IA Interior Architects managing principal Brian Koshley (here with partner Lisa Kelly), who tells us there's no longer anything creative about creative office. "It's become the accepted paradigm for business," he says. "The challenge ahead is to create workplace that captures the imagination for innovation and commerce."

One major project that IA Interior Architects is working on is Bixby Land's 9950 Jeronimo, where the design includes a glass-canopied atrium colonnade that bisects the building, providing an entryway and backdrop for the amenities area. "Our current work with Bixby in repositioning the Jeronimo project shows the key mixture of workplace, retail and hospitality influences in its public space design," Brian says.

Another speaker will be Swinerton Builders VP Dave Callis (here at a previous Bisnow event). Swinerton is nearing completion on South Orange County Community College District’s first design-build project. The design of the classroom spaces will help the college best utilize its state-allotted square footage, with the incorporation of the smaller classrooms to support a host of classes with enrollment caps, such as those in IVC's writing program. This preserves the campus open space design, while providing much-needed space to the classroom, lab and office inventory.

Over the weekend, Bisnow's own Sean Spear, who will be emceeing the event, did an Iron Man Triathlon. In case you don't remember, that means swimming 2.4 miles, riding a bike for 112 miles, and running for a full marathon (26.2 miles). He tore a hamstring at Mile 18 of the run and will appear with crutches at our event. Come ask him about it at Bisnow's 3rd annual OC Construction & Development Summit, starting at 7:30am on Wednesday at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa. Sign up here.
