CIM Group has begun construction of a new apartment complex at Jack London Square in Oakland. The 333-unit complex expected to deliver in 2020 will be at 40 Harrison St. bounded by Embarcadero West and Alice and Harrison streets. The start of this project comes a week after CIM Group purchased a fully entitled parcel at 1100 Clay St. in Oakland.

CIM acquired seven buildings in 2016, becoming master lessee of Jack London Square from the Port of Oakland. The purchase consisted of three office buildings with ground- and second-floor retail, three retail buildings, a parking structure with ground-floor retail and three land parcels, including 40 Harrison St. The developer has been working to enhance Jack London Square by providing underserved real estate uses in the neighborhood to appeal to residents, visitors and tenants.

Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, 40 Harrison St. includes a glass facade, balconies and landscaped courtyards. On-site amenities will include communal gathering spots, outdoor terraces and lounges, a fitness center and a bike storage and care facility. Units will be a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. The complex will have 2,400 SF of ground-floor retail.

CIM recently added new retailers to Jack London Square, including Tartine Bakery’s Coffee Manufactory, Grocery Cafe and Oaklandish as well as the Belcampo restaurant under construction. In addition, the company recently welcomed the Oakland A’s to its roster of office tenants.
