Since the National Children's Museum closed in 2014, DC developer Jane Cafritz has lamented the lack of a museum for kids in the nation's capital.
Cafritz is now planning to create one at her Fort Totten development and will debut the children's museum with a temporary exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery opening this month, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The museum will be called Explore! and will target children from 18 months to 8 years old. The temporary exhibit, opening Jan. 28, will be hands-on and allow kids to create their own portraits.
The Portrait Gallery exhibit will be open for a year, aiming to drum up support for the full museum. The permanent museum would be built at Cafritz's Art Place at Fort Totten, a three-building 520-unit project delivering in Q2 this year.
