The Apex Building at 7272 Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda houses the Regal Cinemas and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, which owns the building. And it's not long for this world.

As the Mongtomery County area formulates a new Bethesda Downtown Plan, ASHP's attorney told the Planning Board that the association is working with a prospective developer to redevelop the site, Bethesda Beat reports. Attorney Bill Kominers declined to name the business that's looking at tearing down and rebuilding, but he said the height of the new building would have to be 290 feet to be financially feasible (that's the maximum height being discussed for the new plan).

The redevelopment would sit next to a planned Purple Line station and, in order to take place, the historic Community Paint and Hardware building next door would have to be moved again. It was last moved in 1988 to make way for the Apex Building. [BB]
