The DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects is hoping to spread the word about the wealth of local architectural talent and recently launched a campaign to help raise awareness.
The organization hopes to encourage a greater use of those firms among out-of-town developers who have a tendency to rely more heavily on out-of-town firms for the bulk of the design work while using local firms as their architect of record, the Washington Business Journal reports. AIA DC executive director Mary Fitch (shown) said that out-of-town firms tend to be less in tune with the area, resulting in fewer striking completed projects.
The chapter plans to take part in several promotions to help get the word out, including an Instagram contest that encourages contestants to share photos of their favorite architecture around the city. The AIA will also be running a series of ads in its ArchitectureDC magazine that will highlight the work of local firms. Shalom Baranes’ City Market at O, which recently received a ULI Global Award for Excellence, will be featured in the initial ad. [WBJ]
