DEBORAH RATNER SALZBERG

Forest City Washington president Deborah Ratner Salzberg is one of the most recognizable names in development. She oversees the massive Yards project in Capitol Riverfront with residential, retail, and office components that will total over 5.5M SF. Next up: transforming Ballston Common into a major urban retail/residential center—just a couple of the company’s projects in 26 states. Deborah is indeed remarkable, but not for her gender at Forest City, where women in top roles abound.

“Starting from my childhood, I've always been surrounded by active, working women,” she says. Her wisdom: Have confidence in your abilities (and be the best prepared in the room). If you work hard and are willing to seek advice, you can learn whatever is necessary to succeed. Deborah is also a yoga junkie, but her favorite activity is adventure traveling (Patagonia, Bhutan) with her family.
