With Purple Line Coming, Landmark Realty Files Plan For 116-Unit Chevy Chase Project

A Bethesda-based developer is moving forward with plans to build apartments along the path of the Purple Line.

Landmark Realty filed an application with the Montgomery County Planning Department to build two four-story apartment buildings totaling 116 units, Bethesda Magazine reports.

The project would be built on Newdale Road in Chevy Chase, just west of Connecticut Avenue. The two-acre site is near the future Connecticut Avenue Purple Line station, the penultimate stop on the western end of the 16-mile rail line. Landmark had first unveiled its plans in 2016, but was waiting to ensure the light rail project would move forward before starting. After a lengthy delay, the Purple Line broke ground in August and is expected to open in 2022.

Landmark hopes to break ground on the project in late 2019, likely allowing it to deliver around the time of the Purple Line station. County planning staff will review the proposal before the Montgomery County Planning Board votes on the application.

Just north of Landmark's site, Bozzuto is preparing to break ground this spring on the 534-unit Chevy Chase Lake apartments, a partnership with Chevy Case Land Co. The three-building project will replace the Chevy Chase Supermarket and will include space for a new 50K SF grocery store.
