Continuing with our Bisnow national multifamily summit (”BMAC”) coverage, the panel on the Residence of the Future regaled our audience with Gen Y, even Gen X, visions of the future. Will kitchens be necessary as units get smaller and cooking at home almost becomes a vanishing art? BSB Design’s Mike Rosen, left, talked about demonstration kitchens in common areas taking off, though so are private dining rooms and catering kitchens; and iUnit’s Brice Leconte talked about the smart technology he applies to microunits.

Post Brothers CEO Michael Pestronk, at the mic, joined by Carlyn & Company Interiors + Design’s Carlyn Guarnieri and Legacy Alliance’s Brad DeYoung (plus RE3’s Dan MacKenzie and Hord Coplan Macht’s Chris Harvey) talked about whether apartment houses these days are beginning to resemble cruise ships—small units, and lots of social amenities and gathering spots. Post Bros, founded by Michael and his brother in 2006, specializes in gut-renovating mega-apartment buildings into A or higher quality in areas where that quality—or associated rents—have not been seen. All specialize in physical features and services expected by new generations that would be unfamiliar to even Gen X’ers, let alone Baby Boomers. But those older generations learn fast if they’re the landlords.
