The Wharf's Phase 1 Construction, Taken At An Event In November

As the Hoffman-Madison Waterfront team prepares to deliver The Wharf's massive Phase 1 on Oct. 12, it just released new details about the project's second phase, which is set to break ground in mid-2018.

Phase 2 will total 1.2M SF of development across half a mile of waterfront, including three office towers, one rental apartment building and a condo building.

Perkins Eastman will continue as the master planner and master architect for Phase 2, with 10 additional architects focusing on individual components of the project. This continues the team's strategy of designing each component differently to create a visually interesting project, after it hired 12 architects to work on Phase 1.

"As with everything connected to The Wharf, the architectural design team chosen for Phase 2 reflects our ongoing efforts to achieve excellence while creating a dynamic, authentic, and compelling community," Madison Marquette managing director Peter Cole said in a release.

ShoP Architects and WDG Architecture will work on Parcels 6 and 7, which will consist of two office towers and retail space. ODA, which has designed affordable housing projects in New York City, will create a mixed-income apartment building with retail on Parcel 8.

On Parcel 9, Rafael Viñoly Architects will create a luxury condo building. Morris Adjmi Architects will design the office building on Parcel 10, its first commercial office building in DC.

Five more firms, STUDIOS Architecture, Hollwich Kushner, S9 Architecture, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Wolf | Josey, will collaborate on parts of the marina and outdoor public space.
