After releasing an RFP in April and narrowing it down to three choices in October, the DC government has selected a proposal for the Crummell School redevelopment in Ivy City.
The District chose StonebridgeCarras, Profish and Jarvis Co's proposal, which received the most support from the neighborhood organization, to redevelop the 108k SF site close to New York Avenue NE.
The plan would turn the school into a community center, rendered above, which could include a day care, a health clinic, a culinary school and a recreational facility. The school will be surrounded on three sides by a mixed-use development. In total, it will have 320 rental units, 60 of which would be affordable, 35k SF of industrial space and 22k SF of retail.
For the industrial space, DC-based seafood company Profish has teamed up with the developers to expand its operations from its nearby Ivy City HQ.
"Our proposal for Crummell School was focused on a renovation of this historic school in the core of Ivy City," StonebridgeCarras principal Jane Mahaffie tells Bisnow, "making sure our project would revive the heart, preserve the history and engage the future."
