A new brand backed by a Chinese billionaire that combines hospitality and coworking picked D.C. for its first U.S. location, and the project is gearing up to open in the coming weeks.

Eaton Workshop will open a 209-room hotel at 1201 K St. NW in late September, followed by the Oct. 1 grand opening of its Eaton House coworking space.

The coworking space will offer drop-in access for $400/month, a dedicated desk for $800/month and private offices starting at $1,800/month. Its amenities will include a 50-seat screening room, an in-house radio station, a printing and photography room, a café with an espresso bar and four conference rooms.

It will also include access to the wellness amenities at the adjoining hotel, including a meditation room, a yoga studio and saunas. Members will also get discounts at the hotel's lobby and rooftop bars and preferred rates for guest rooms. The project also features a restaurant, American Son, from popular chef Tim Ma.

The Eaton Workshop brand is owned by Chinese real estate billionaire Ka Shui Lo's Great Eagle Holdings and run by his daughter, Katherine Lo. The company also opened an Eaton Workshop in Hong Kong.

"My vision for Eaton House is to offer the optimal setting for socially conscious leaders across environmentalism, design, tech, nonprofits, activism and the arts to maximize their dreams and ambitions," Katherine Lo said in a release.

The company is the latest to enter the D.C. market's fast-growing coworking sector. Israeli coworking company Mindspace opened one of its first two U.S. locations in D.C. earlier this week at One Franklin Square. New York-based Bond Collective announced in June it would open its first D.C. coworking space on H Street. Several other coworking providers from WeWork to Spaces to Industrious are also growing their D.C.-area footprints.
