The development team behind Ashburn's $500M "Smart City" has added another partner.
Reverse auction platform FedBid will join the 22 City Link team creating the Gramercy District, the Washington Business Journal reports.
FedBid, an online marketplace for B-to-B commerce, will help the team efficiently purchase goods and services to build the 16.8-acre development.
Developer 22 Capital Partners brought in Microsoft as a co-investor in March, and in August it partnered with George Washington University and the Center for Innovative Technology.
The team also just released new renderings, above, of the 2.5M SF mixed-use project it is developing near the Ashburn Silver Line Station. The development will include three multifamily buildings, a 350k SF office building, 150k SF of retail, a high-tech business center, and plenty of open, green space.
The team aims to create a model for integrating technology with real estate development that it can replicate for other projects around the country. [WBJ]
