Two years after delivering the remarkable Phase 1 of CityCenter DC, Hines and the real estate arm of the Qatar Investment Authority have started construction on the second piece on their transformative development.
The Conrad Washington, DC, hotel, the smart luxury flag by Hilton, will bring 360 rooms and 30k SF of retail to the corner of 10th and I streets NW when it opens, planned for Q1 2019. It's the seventh building on the site of the former convention center developed by the JV, and it's designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Herzog & de Meuron with HKS Architects serving as architect of record.

The hotel "means more jobs and opportunities for District residents and businesses,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a release. “This development is another positive signal of our growing economy and our emergence as a national leader in hospitality and tourism.”
The hotel is expected to generate 450 construction/development jobs and 350 full-time operations jobs when it opens, Hines says. Once it's complete, the final piece of CityCenter DC left to be developed will be 900 New York Ave, the 540k SF trophy office building from Gould Property Co and Oxford Properties Group. It's still undetermined when that building will deliver.
