Medical marijuana dispensaries will soon open in Maryland, with at least 28 in the DC suburbs.
State officials on Friday granted authorization for 102 businesses to sell medical marijuana, with the dispensaries spread throughout the state, the Washington Post reports.
At least 18 dispensaries will open in Montgomery County. The law limited the shops to two per state Senate district, but granted some exceptions, including a Rockville/Gaithersburg district that will have four dispensaries. One Bethesda dispensary will be opened by Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn, who owns a DC dispensary in Takoma Park.
Prince George's County will have at least 10 dispensaries. One of them, CannaPharmacy Maryland LLC, is an offshoot of New Jersey's largest medical marijuana growing facility.
The specific locations of the dispensaries have not yet been announced. The approvals come three and a half years after the state legalized cannabis for medicinal use, with various delays slowing down the process. More than 800 companies applied for the 102 spots. [WaPo]
