Google is jumping into Northern Virginia's booming data center corridor with plans for two new facilities.
The tech company paid $89M for two sites in Ashburn and Leesburg totaling 148 acres where it plans to build data centers, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reports.
Construction is expected to start next year at the first site, a 91-acre property in Ashburn's Arcola Center. That development also recently landed a Wegmans grocery store.
No timeline is set for the second data center, which will be built on a 57-acre site in Stonewall Business Park outside of Leesburg.
Google is just the latest player to enter the red-hot Loudoun County data center market. Last month, Santa Clara-based Vantage Data Centers announced plans to build a $1B data center campus on a 42-acre site it acquired in Ashburn. A Kansas-based data center developer entered into a contract last month to buy a 280-acre site along the Silver Line's upcoming second phase.
