What Food Is Heading to Capitol Crossing?

Well, Property Group Partners' Bob Braunohler was a bit tight-lipped on that front at last week's Bisnow DC Development Boom event. But Bob (with Fisher Brothers' Peter Cole) did say that his firm is in discussions with two food emporium operators for the over 2M SF development—NYC and Chicago staple Eataly has been previously reported as one such operator. PGP is going for its own distinct feel with the retail portion of Capitol Crossing, so as not to simply reproduce the vibe CityCenter has created and while giving the underserved neighborhoods surrounding Capitol Crossing what they need.

The 11th Street retail corridor, stretching from the Old Post Office project all the way up to CityCenter, is creating a true downtown in the East End, says Cushman & Wakefield's David Dochter. Large format retailers (like Gap and H&M) have taken notice, and there's a walking pattern of shopping along the corridor that didn't exist before, he adds. (Knowing that, we suggest a shoe store.)
