Danish architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group has been hired to design a new stadium for the Washington Redskins, as well as a new Wilson School building in Rosslyn.

Bjarke Ingels is one of the most innovative architects in the industry with a résumé that includes the design of 2 World Trade Center. Last year, Google selected the firm to design a futuristic greenhouse-style HQ campus in Mountain View, CA.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder considered firms with experience designing NFL stadiums before giving the nod to Bjarke Ingels, the Washington Post reports. The team has been looking for a location elsewhere in the region despite being locked into a lease at FedEx Field in Landover until 2027.

Possible locations include Loudoun County near where the second leg of Metro’s Silver Line will be built. Mayor Bowser has inquired about the land beneath RFK Stadium for a potential new stadium, but has also expressed reservations about the team returning to the District absent a name change.

Over in Rosslyn, renderings have been unveiled for a new Wilson School building and, if it's completed as planned, Rosslyn may be home to the most innovative public school building in the nation.

Architecture firm Leo A. Daly is working in tandem with Ingels to create a new building to replace the demolished Wilson School, City Lab reports. Residents had been seeking a historic designation for the 105-year-old building but were denied by the Arlington County Board last April.

The design features the geometric hallmarks prevalent in other Bjarke Ingels projects. Planning documents from the Arlington Public Schools reveal an innovative torqueing design and a building that appears to spread out like a hand fan. The school district has an $85.9M budget in place for the building, something the architecture team is still working towards meeting. [CL]
