Any chance of DC getting its football team to move back to the District is probably going to have to wait for a new commander-in-chief. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell has told DC Mayor Muriel Bowser that the Redskins' team name would preclude the National Park Service from extending the city's lease on RFK Stadium, the Washington Post reports. The NPS owns the land on which the stadium sits, and leases 190 acres to the District for the stadium and associated parking lots. Any deal DC strikes to bring the 'Skins back in the Federal City before 2018 would likely have to include a lease extension—the deal expires in 22 years—which would have to be approved by the Obama Administration. The president has repeatedly stated the name needs to change, as has Bowser, but that hasn't stopped DC's eighth mayor from openly courting the team from its current home in Prince George's County. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is also beneath owner Dan Snyder's balcony, hoping to lure him to the commonwealth where the team HQ, practice facility and training camp all are situated. [WaPo]
