The 2nd District Police Station has reached its golden years and consequently been rejected for a newer, upgraded model. While the Bethesda building takes a political class on ageism, the issue for residents is the loss of more than 100 public parking spaces. The new StonebridgeCarras-developed station will be at 4823 Rugby Ave, a gravel lot right in front of busy, three-level, 496-space Woodmont-Rugby Garage, reports BethesdaNow. 115 of those spaces will be marked for police use only, with the western portion of the first and second levels sectioned off by a fence, and the Rugby Avenue entry converted into a secure police-only entrance with a gate. A mandatory referral review before the Planning Board is expected in the next few weeks, and StonebridgeCarras hopes to break ground in early 2016.
