Following Mayor Muriel Bowser’s decision last week to scrap plans with the Institute for Contemporary Expression to turn the Franklin School (above) into a museum, the Internet blew up with opinions on the fate of the building. Washington City Paper feels the mayor should reconsider, saying a museum would require the least alteration to its protected historic interior and it would save the city’s reputation as a business partner. Meanwhile Popville readers seem to take the opposite stance, with the majority declaring that DC has enough museums. Their suggestions range from hotels to a Union Market-type space. Perhaps DC residents wouldn’t be so upset if the mayor caters to the interests of commercial developers after all.
