If you'd like for all of your streetcar dreams to be crushed in a matter of moments, check out all of the visualized maps from over the past 20 years. The project seemed promising at first, with three lines proposed in 1997, and future lines envisioned. Unfortunately, after years of readjusting it seems that things started to take a turn for the worst around 2011. Illustrations by Greater Greater Washington show the lines begin to significantly diminish, dwindling down to just one this year. In fact, a few commenters described the visualization as "depressing." As it stands now, the only line in the works is the H Street/Benning Road line, which Mayor Muriel Bowser is dedicated to finishing. [GGW]
