The Arlington County Board has unanimously approved a redevelopment project that will bring 173 affordable housing units to the Columbia Pike neighborhood.
The Arlington Presbyterian Church at 3507 Columbia Pike will be demolished and give way to an affordable housing complex with ground-floor retail space and a three-floor parking garage, ARLnow reports. The project is a partnership between the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing and the church congregation, which approved the redevelopment plan back in 2013 but didn’t finalize the sale of the church to APAH until this past February.
The board also unanimously approved roughly $18M in loans to APAH, which will oversee the demolition and construction. This is "a unique and special opportunity to partner with APC...in carrying out what it has determined as its spiritual mission,” APAH vice chairman John Milliken says.
This is the latest project to enter the pipeline for APAH, the developer behind one of the area’s signature affordable housing projects: the Arlington Mill Residences at 909 S Dinwiddie St. Earlier this year, APAH received approval for the 229-unit Columbia Hills Apartments at 1010 S Frederick St. [AN]
