Great Gulf broke ground last week on Yonge + Rich, a 45-storey, 680-unit condo development near Yonge and Richmond that’ll involve restoration of a 19th century red-brick building at 26 Lombard St, on the site’s south end. Pictured are Great Gulf EVP Bruce Freeman and president Christopher Wein flanking deputy mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong. Designed by Peter Clewes of architectsAlliance, Yonge + Rich will have a podium that echoes the heritage building design. But its towers will be downright futuristic, featuring translucent glass that dissolves into a “pixilated composition” of vertical and horizontal panels as it moves across the facade.
