One group that remains excited about the continued interest among US retailers in Canada are those that run REITs, like RioCan chairman Ed Sonshine who was also in Las Vegas over the weekend. RioCans core strategy is owning and operating shopping centres as well as newer format retail centres. Target is very pleased with their early results in Canada, he says. Canada is seen as fertile expansion ground for many brands already here, with several new retailers exploring opportunities. This is a great situation for RioCan because we have relationships with all these prospective tenants through our expansion in the US, and we are their first call.
