3 Signs Tampa Bay Tech Community Is Thriving

The tech industry in the Tampa Bay area has gotten some recognition in recent days. Three separate companies won three accolades, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports.

First, Wayne Rasanen, an inventor based in New Port Richey, won an international award for his 10-key keyboard design, which helps the visually impaired use mobile devices. His company, IN10DID, won the R&D 100 Awards, which is sponsored by R&D Magazine.

The device is called DecaTxt and is a one-handed Bluetooth keyboard. Besides the blind, people with limited mobility, neurological conditions or limb loss can use it to control computers remotely.

Intezyne, a Tampa-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that focuses on anti-cancer therapies, recently won the Deal of the Year: Initial Funding award at the Southeast BIO Investor & Partnering Forum.

The company recently raised $10M in an oversubscribed capital offering led by Gaston Capital Healthcare Fund. It has launched a $30M Series B round ahead of an expected initial public offering.

Finally, Time magazine put a device called Molekule on its list of 25 best inventions of 2017. Described by the publication as “an air filter that zaps away pollutants,” it is the product of a San Francisco-based clean tech company of that name, which has its R&D operations at the University of South Florida.
